Major Function
The incumbent is responsible for the integrated sourcing management of new product/part development with Marketing, Design Engineering, Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (AME), Manufacturing and Suppliers. The Advanced Sourcing Manager is an active member of product development team(s) throughout all phases of new product/part development. The Advanced Sourcing Manager works with suppliers and engineering to determine technology design approaches and alignment of supplier capabilities in order to provide cost and quality advantages. The Advanced Sourcing Manager serves as a liaison for cross-functional sourcing participation in all development and design changes that require RFQ's or ECN's/ECO's.
Duties & Responsibilities
1. Identifies and maintains current knowledge regarding approved supplier capabilities, technologies and processes in order to assist in the matching of appropriate suppliers for new parts originating from new or revised BOM's.
2. Research of new technologies, materials, and suppliers that can be incorporated in new product development.
3. Serve as an internal resource regarding supplier new products, capabilities, technologies, and sourcing process.
4. Serves as an active product development team member in all phases of Toro BDS/PDS processes to ensure cross-functional objectives of New Product Development (NPD).
5. Participates in new product/part design reviews and coordinates the election and participation of applicable suppliers.
6. Provides standard costing assistance to the NPD project team early on in development phases.
7. Integrates NPD activities with Production Sourcing to proactively assure parts availability, identify lead-time requirements, manage contractual obligations and establish comprehensive sourcing strategies.
8. Participates with AME's and product designers in identifying new outsourcing opportunities as part of the Make vs. Buy decision.
9. Participates in pre-production manufacturing pilot runs and start-up of new product manufacturing as necessary to assure on-time delivery of parts and a high level of supplier performance.
10. Works as a team member with Quality, Engineering and Manufacturing in the supplier assessment and qualification processes to determine supplier capabilities for meeting cost, quality, information, and service and delivery requirements.
Job Dimensions
Under direction of Manager, Advanced Sourcing this position supports strategic sourcing activities for a wide variety of low-medium-high complexity, and high risk materials, components and services. Work is to be performed cross functionally with Marketing, Design Engineering, Advanced Manufacturing, Manufacturing, and both prospective and existing Suppliers. Support of all plants and all divisions of The Toro Company.
Specifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering with a minimum of 2 years technical buying or other supply chain activity. Excellent oral and written communications. Strong interpersonal, facilitation and team leadership skills. Demonstrated negotiation skills. Strong analytical abilities and research skills, including using internet sources as a resource. High level of desktop software PC skills. Understanding of enterprise purchasing and planning systems (SAP). Skilled in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and blueprints. CPIM, CPSM certification preferred.
